I’m Alia Stewart, a Sagittarius, Cat Mom, and Outfit Repeater. I serve as the Director of Student Engagement and Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Liaison at Blackburn College, where I also proudly earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Musical Theatre Performance with a minor in Leadership.

What began as a single presentation at a Collegiate Leadership Summit has blossomed into Reigning in Leadership, a collection of specifically curated, self-paced, and free courses designed to empower you to grow as a leader. This is part of my Community Service Initiative with the Miss America Opportunity, a journey that combines my passions for leadership, equity, and creativity. Today, I am proud to stand with the American Heart Association and the Miss America Scholarship Foundation in recognition of Go Red for Women and Wear Red Day.

Heart disease remains the leading cause of death for women, yet so many warning signs go unnoticed or misunderstood. Go Red for Women focuses on awareness, education, and advocacy while empowering women to take charge of their heart health and care for one another.

As a titleholder, service means showing up, using our voices, and supporting causes that truly impact our communities. Today, that means wearing red, starting important conversations, and taking action for women’s health.

MLK Day is a reminder that dreams become meaningful when we step into our duty.

I was honored to host a reflection activity centered on “From Dream to Duty,” inviting the community to connect Dr. King’s vision to their own responsibility as leaders and changemakers.

I was also grateful to serve as host and scriptwriter for the MLK Convocation, helping to uplift the voices of those committed to justice, equity, and service.

Proud to represent a community that chooses reflection, adaptability, and action in honoring Dr. King’s legacy. As Miss Lincoln Prairie, this holds special meaning knowing that Illinois was the first state to recognize Martin Luther King Jr. Day as a state holiday. His dream has always required more than remembrance. It calls us to responsibility, leadership, and continued action.

It has been a week since I competed for Miss Capital City, and I am still filled with gratitude and pride. I walked away as 1st Runner Up, my first ever placement in the Miss America Opportunity! 💫

I felt so confident in what I laid out on that stage, my words, my performance, and the heart behind my Community Service Initiative, Reigning in Leadership. Every moment felt true to who I am, and seeing that confidence recognized meant so much.

Each time I step into competition I grow a little more. This experience reminded me that progress is something to be proud of. As Wilbur Turnblad once said, “You gotta think big to be big,” and this placement showed me that I am right where I am supposed to be.

And speaking of thinking big, I am so excited to share that I will be competing this weekend for Miss Mississippi Crown. I cannot wait to bring my best self to the stage once again and continue sharing the heart behind Reigning in Leadership.

To the incredible Miss Capital City class, thank you for the laughter, encouragement, and sisterhood. You made this experience one I will never forget.

The first day of classes always feels like a fresh start, whether you are a student, staff member, or lifelong learner. 📓✨

I welcomed the Class of 2026 at Senior Sunrise, met with our student managers for the first staff meeting of the semester, and had the honor of speaking at the All College Convocation. Convocation is one of my favorite Blackburn traditions because it brings our entire campus together to celebrate a new academic year, set our intentions, and remind us that we rise higher when we rise together. Sharing my story and encouraging students to step into leadership was a true privilege.

I closed the day by singing with the community choir again after four years away. What a full circle kickoff to September. 🎶🌅📚

Last weekend, I competed in the final Miss Illinois local of the season! I had a fabulous time traveling to Marion with @leave.it.to.lauren24 and leaving my all on that stage.

My favorite part of traveling for MAO is seeing the beauty these towns offer. As the daughter of a small business owner, I know the importance shopping small and local. My favorite locations visited were The Little Nashville Cafe (and the fantastic music from The Family Soul), breakfast at The Vault Cafe, a post-pageant treat at Downtown Fizz (not pictured), and the beautiful murals in Downtown Marion.

I can’t wait to be back in Marion to watch Miss Illinois!

Miss America has a rich history of collaborating with prominent philanthropic organizations, such as the Children’s Miracle Network and Character Counts, to make a meaningful impact in communities nationwide. Over the past month, I have had the profound honor of planning @blackburn_college’s annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Convocation. The weeks of hard work, blood, sweat, and tears put into this event have finally come to fruition.

I am so proud of our DEIB Team for the unwavering dedication put into this Convocation. Today, as we reflect on Dr. King's teachings, let us remember his unwavering belief in the power of love and nonviolence. He believed we could confront injustice with courage, compassion, and steadfast belief in humanity. Dr. King faced immense challenges, yet he never wavered in his commitment to justice. His ability to inspire hope in the face of adversity is a lesson we can all learn from today. We see the echoes of Dr. King's struggles: inequities persist, and voices will cry out for justice. But we also see progress: laws have been changed, attitudes have shifted, and more people are standing up for what is right. Each of us has the potential to inspire hope, to carry forward his legacy, to raise our voices against injustice, and to work towards a more equitable future. Let us remember: change begins with each of us. Each of us has a role to play, whether in our communities, workplaces, or families.
